BATCH REACTOR
Case | A batch reactor (AISI 316L) with fluctuating temperatures between 40°C and 260°C shows severe corrosion in the top of the reactor (vapor phase). Reactor is 12 years in service. |
Cause | High concentration of chloride in combination with fluctuating temperatures (batches), are responsible for the three failure mechanisms which enhance each other: Thermal Fatigue, Pitting, Cl-SCC. |
Advice | Material type and conceptual design have been adjusted coform our recommendations for this application. |
